7 Ways to Earn Money with your Car

We all have different goals as it relates to finances.  Whether your goal is to pay off debt, save money for a home, or even to travel, there are two key ways to accomplish those goals financially.  You can cut our expenses or you can make extra money.  Honestly, there are only so many ways to cut your expenses.  If you have a cell phone and a car, you are in luck because you can earn money with your car!

Today we are going to cover 7 ways that you can earn money with your car.

5 Ways to Earn Money with your Car

Ride Sharing

The most popular way to earn money with your car is to drive through a ride-sharing service.  Popular examples of ride-sharing services are Lyft and Uber.  If you aren’t familiar with those services, ride sharing is a service that arranges one-time shared rides on very short notice.

As an incentive to sign up and start driving for ride-sharing services, Uber and Lyft both offer cash incentives for drivers that sign up for the first time. Often times the incentive is redeemed after a certain number of rides have been completed.

The big benefit of ride-sharing services is that you can drive and earn money with your car whenever you want!  Therefore, if you get off work and want to earn some money, you can turn on the app related to the service and see if there is anyone in your area that needs a ride.  In addition, when it is very busy you may luck out with surge pricing.  Surge pricing is where you will get paid even more based on how busy the area is. I know someone that tries to only drive when there is surge pricing going on.  Although he can not predict the surge pricing, typically during concerts and festivals the surge pricing hits.

Rent it Out

Another way to earn money with your car is to rent it out. There are a few different services that help arrange the process of renting out your car. Two of the most known services are Turo and HyreCar.

One of the biggest benefits of renting out your car is that you can make money without physically being around. The challenge with this though is that if you need your car to get to work, you may not be able to rent it out. Therefore, this option is mainly good for people (or families) who have an extra vehicle.

Have you noticed those cars with large stickers plastered on them advertising local businesses? This type of advertising is called car wrapping.

Locating for legitimate businesses that offer car wrapping can be difficult. Keep the following rules of thumb in mind:

  • The company should not charge you a fee for displaying their advertising.
  • The company should ask questions about your car, your car insurance, and driving habits.

A few companies that do pay for placing ads on your car include pay me for driving and autowrapped.

Offer Sightseeing Tours

Another option that is less known to earn money with your car is to offer sightseeing tours in your car.  This option is best if you live in a city that is popular for tourists and each to drive around in (think New Orleans, Los Angeles, etc…). Advertise your services online and offer sightseeing tours with your car.

When I visited Panama City, Panama a few years back, I took a tour from a local.  Our tour was primarily based on foot; however, he did have options for driving tours as well.

Transport Goods for Others

In addition, you can earn money with your car by transporting goods for others.  This option is especially viable if you have a large SUV or pickup truck.  People are always looking for a way to transport furniture and other large options.

7 Ways to Earn Money with your Car

Deliver Take Out/Restaurant Food

Delivering take out and restaurant food for others has recently become a popular money to make money with your car.  Quite a few companies have popped up offering food delivery like Uber Eats, DoorDash, etc…  According to the Uber Eats site, they pay about $3 per delivery which comes out to about $10-20 an hour.  Of course, you can receive tips which could increase the amount that you are earning per hour.

Instead of working directly for one restaurant or pizza shop, you would work directly for the delivery company and deliver food for restaurants all over your city.

Deliver Groceries

Similarly to delivering take out and restaurant food, another way to earn money with your car is to deliver groceries.  In the 21st century, grocery stores have made things super easy like ordering food online.  You can take things a step further by delivering groceries.  Start offering your services to friends and family before you offer the services to more people.

Many of the services do have requirements for your vehicle as well as your driving record. Therefore, all of the options aren’t for everyone. For example, ride sharing services only allow four door cars. In addition, depending on the service, they may also require that your car was made in a certain year.  Even though my car is only a few years old, since it is a two-door car, I am unable to qualify to drive for ride-sharing services like Uber and Lyft.

On the flip side, if you have a larger vehicle or truck, you can earn even more money with your car.  For example, if you choose to help others transport goods, it is essential that you have a large vehicle.
