How to Make Money Blogging without a ton of traffic

This post may contain affiliate links.

I don’t know about you but one of my biggest goals this year was to make more money.  There are plenty of ways that you can make more money.  I have dabbled in a couple of ways to make more money this year like speaking and freelance writing.  However, one of the main ways that I have been working on improving my side hustle income is through my blog.  Did you know that you can actually make money blogging?  You can even make money blogging without a ton of traffic.

Believe it or not but Financially Fit & Fab is my third blog! Yes, you read that right. It is my third blog. Even though I may have tried blogging in the past multiple times, this is the most successful go around by far. Although success can be measured in a wide variety of ways, I feel like this go around have been successful because I’m able to make money blogging without a ton of traffic.

How to Make Money blogging without a ton of traffic

One of the most common ways for new bloggers to make money is through advertising.  You know those ads that you may see on the sidebar or top of your favorite websites?  You can sign up to show similar ads on your on personal website or blog.

A variety of websites offer ad networks that you can sign up for.  The first website that I used for ads was Google Adsense.  There is a super easy application process and you are typically approved in a very short amount of time.As you increase the number of pageviews that you receive, you can find additional advertising networks that pay additional money.

Keeping it honest, ads are a slow way to make money blogging without a ton of traffic.  Therefore, keep this in mind as one possible stream of income from your blog.

Sponsored Posts

One of the second more common ways for bloggers to make money without a ton of traffic is through sponsored content.  Sponsored posts happen when a company wants to work with a blogger in order to spread their message.  The company with pay the blogger with money or with free services/products.

You may see some of your favorite bloggers promoting various brands regularly on social media or their websites.  This could be considered sponsored content where the brand or company has paid the blogger a fee to promote it.

If you really want to take off with sponsored posts, then don’t be afraid to proactively reach out to companies to see if they would like to collaborate.  Honestly, the worst thing they can say is no.  However, if they tell you yes you have made progress in the quest to make money blogging without a ton of traffic.

I will say to be careful when accepting sponsored posts.  Go with your gut feeling in terms of content that is applicable to your audience and a price point that serves you.  If you have a blog about money, then someone wanted to pay you to write about the price of tea in China isn’t exactly applicable.

Affiliate Marketing

I recently learned about affiliate marketing.  Affiliate marketing has real power in helping you to make money blogging without a ton of traffic.  If you aren’t familiar with affiliate marketing, affiliate marketing is the process of businesses rewarding individuals for getting people to use their business or service.

There are a variety of ways to find out what companies have an affiliate program.  Certain companies will tell you right on their websites.  In addition, there are certain networks where you can learn about a ton of affiliate programs at once.  Check out the networks that I use:

  • Shareasale
  • FlexOffers
  • iGain

One blogger, Michelle, literally makes over $50,000 each month from affiliate marketing.  Recently, I signed up for her course in order to learn more about affiliate marketing and to put her strategies in to use.  I bought and finished the course in November.  At the time of writing this post, the month was just halfway over and I had already doubled my affiliate income between October and November.

If you are interested in learning more about affiliate marketing, I would highly suggest that you check out Michelle’s course, Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing.  It was well worth the investment.  I ended up purchasing the course after learning about other bloggers at FinCon who increased their affiliate marketing income by thousands of dollars after completing her course.  Michelle gives actionable steps to improve your affiliate income.  Click here for more information about the course and to sign up! **And there is currently a Cyber Monday special on the course so it is $28 off!  Act fast as the special ends at 11:59 PST**

Ebooks & Courses

The last two ways to make money blogging without a ton of traffic are through selling digital content through ebooks and courses. Think about all the knowledge that you possess.  That knowledge is worth money.  Yes, people will pay you for your knowledge.

Although it is helpful to have a decent amount of traffic when selling your own content, it is not necessary.  You can sell your ebook and/or course to social media or even a third-party platform.  For example, Udemy is a completely free platform to post your course; however, you have to give them 50% for each student that they bring to you.  There are other platforms where you can host the course yourself that come with a monthly or annual fee.

The good part about making an ebook or course is that it is passive income. Therefore, once you add the course to a platform to sell you do not have to update it regularly.  You can focus your efforts on promoting the ebook or course and then creating future products to make money.

  1. All of this! I don’t really have my own products yet, BUT I’ve been working on my email list to build it, and I’m diving in next year to create a course or product for sale. Love this!
