2017 is literally the year of the online side hustle. Everyone I know has one, if not multiple side hustles. The great part about technology is that you can find an online side hustle that you can work right from the comfort of your own home.

A side hustle can help you save for your emergency fund, pay down debt, save for your first home purchase, or allow you to travel more often. I had a side hustle a few years ago that helped me to pay down $11,000 in debt which helped me to raise my credit score over 150 points! I wish I knew about these side hustle ideas back then.

The best thing about all of these online side hustles is that you don’t even need any formal training! Of course, a degree or formal training may help you make more money faster but it is not necessary. I even have friends that have turned one or multiple of these side hustles below into full-time careers! Yes, you read that right!

Check out these 10+ online side hustles you can start today:

Online Surveys

Yes, you read that right.  You can make real money from online surveys!  I started taking surveys recently to make some extra cash and I am here to tell you that they actually work.

Taking online surveys is probably one of the best online side hustles because they don’t cost any money to you.  You could be watching television which you are taking surveys!

Check out this company that will pay you to take surveys:

  • American Consumer Opinion

I love love love taking surveys like the ones from American Consumer Opinion because it is so easy to make a little cash.  The company is completely legitimate.  You should try it for yourself by clicking here.

Start a Blog

You can literally start a blog about anything that you enjoy writing about and are knowledgeable about.  Pick a niche that you want to write about and that you can think of at least 10+ topics to write about.  Head over to BlueHost to get your self-hosted blog for the low price of $3.95 per month and a FREE domain name.  Click here to get started today.

Starting a self-hosting blog has nearly changed my life.  I know you are thinking, starting a blog can’t be that great.  However, starting this website has helped me to change my life.  I am able to help others with money and even earn some extra money myself.  Although this is the third blog I started, I felt like I took it more seriously this time and the first step was signing up for a self-hosted site.  Basically, that means that no one can take the site away from me.

Once you have purchased your hosting and domain name, you can find a free template.  Then, get to writing!  Once your blog is set up you can make money from your blogs the follow ways:

  • Affiliate Sales

Start a Podcast

Similarly to starting a blog, you can start a podcast in order to make some extra cash.  All you need to start a podcast is a computer, a good mic, editing equipment and something to talk about.

Podcasters make money in many of the same ways that bloggers make money.

  • On air advertisements
  • Affiliate Sales
  • Sponsored Shows
  • Selling your own products
  • Selling your own services

Podcasting really seems like the current wave.  I started listening to two MEGA popular podcasters about 3 years ago.  Since then they make over 6-figures in income each month.  Yes, you read that right, each month.

  • Pat Flynn @ Small Passive Income
  • John LeDumas @ Entrepreneur on Fire

Honestly, Pat Flynn and John LeDumas were the first two people that showed me it is possible to make a full-time living online.  And not just any full-time living, an extremely lucrative living.  I’ve listened to their stories to success so many times.  Of course, their success didn’t happen overnight.

For any of these online side hustles to pay off, you have to work hard, extremely hard.

Most podcasters also have a website where they include their mission, notes of previous shows, and contact information among other things.  If you are ready to get started with your website, make sure you don’t miss out on starting your own self-hosted site for only 3.95 per month!

Freelance writing

Do you like to write?  If so, you can turn your freelance writing skills into your next side hustle.  Companies and bloggers alike typically hire freelance writers to help them keep up with content.

The best thing about freelance writing is you don’t have to have a journalism degree or be an expert in grammar.  Just start writing!  Practice literally makes perfect.  In addition, a free app called Grammarly will help you with the grammar.

Starting a blog is a great way to get your writing portfolio in front of a larger audience.  In fact, I landed my first freelance writing gig through my blogs twitter account!  In addition, companies want to see your writing skills.  Starting a blog is a great way for me to showcase those skills.

Finding your first freelance writing job can be tough.  You can send cold pitches to sites that you know accept work or check out job boards for opportunities.  Check out the two sites below if you are looking for freelance writing jobs:

  • Problogger Jobs
  • Morning Coffee eNewsletter

Similarly to freelance writing, if you enjoy writing and are good at it, you may be able to land some gigs ghostwriting.  Ghostwriting is where you write articles, blog posts, manuscripts, and other content that is officially credited to someone else.

Yes, some of your favorite bloggers and authors employ ghostwriting for a variety of reasons.

The big difference between ghostwriting and freelance writing is that you can’t add the ghostwriting work to your resume.  Due to this, you can typically command more money for ghostwriting than you do for freelance writing.

Some ghostwriting opportunities may be posted on job boards similarly to freelance writing jobs.  However, the best way to find ghostwriting opportunities is through referrals.  If you are looking for ghostwriting or freelance writing opportunities, let your social media follows, friends and family, know.  You never know who knows who!

Virtual Assistant

Entrepreneurs and small business owners typically need help.  The help could range from accounting work to social media management, and responding to emails among many other tasks.  Instead of looking to hire a full-time employee, many will opt for virtual assistants.

That is where you come in.

This is your chance to show off your expertise to someone truly in need.  The best part is if you do a good job you will likely land yourself a longer-term online side hustle.  In addition, it could result in referral business from other entrepreneurs.

Virtual Assistants in America typically get paid between $15-75 per hour.  $15 on the low end for someone just starting out and $75 for someone who is experienced and can possess special skills.

Blog Management

Once you have started your blog, you can even help others by getting into blog management.  Blog management includes handling the day to day activities for another person’s personal or company blog.  Tasks range from writing posts (i.e. freelance writing) to responding to commenters and producing social media comment.  Each job is truly unique.

Blog Management jobs could last for a week or two while a blogger is on vacation or needing a break.  Or the job could be more long term.

This is another task where is it great to have your own blog.  That way you can show off your skills to potential clients.  In addition, as you are connecting with other bloggers in your niche, you may run into someone that needs some help.

Social Media Strategy/Management

Are you good a social media?  If so, a blog or company needs your help!   There are a few ways you can sell your social media skills.

The first way to sell your social media skills is through social media strategy.  Social Media Strategy involves creating a strategy for another company to implement.  Basically, you tell them what they need to do and they will work to implement your strategy.  This may also involve initially getting their social media accounts set up.

On the other side of things, once you create a social media strategy for a company or blog you can manage the social media platform for them.  Of course, this is more intensive; however, there are a variety of free social media tools that can help you manage.

  • Buffer
  • Hootsuite
  • Co-schedule
  • Tailwind

If you are good at social media and can show your skills, this can be another lucrative online side hustle.

Website/Graphic Design

Did you study graphic or web design in school?  Or have you picked up skills along the way through courses and experience?  Either way, there are plenty of people that need your help!

Entrepreneurs, small business owners, bloggers, and even larger companies will pay big money for your expertise.

In order to initially get your name out and practice your design skills, check out Fiverr.  The only thing about Fiverr is that typically people are looking for a deal. Therefore, it may be a good place to start finding working but now a place to stay forever.

Make sure you up a website to show off your skills.  People will literally pay hundreds of dollars (if not thousands of dollars) for good design work.

Affiliate Marketing

It, literally, pays to be popular on social media.

You don’t need your own blog to get into affiliate marketing (even though your own blog may help).  Do you have a large social media following?  If so, companies will pay you to be a brand ambassador.  Basically, you promote their products in front of your audience and they will pay you.

Instagram users who have more than 100,000 can earn $700-900 per photo!  If you have 500,000 followers, then you can command between $2,000-$3,000 per photo. Certain extremely popular fashion-focused Instagram users are able to get $8,000 per photo.

If you have a large social media following, then you may be considered an influencer in your niche.  As an influencer, your social media following will buy things that you promote and brands want to cash in on that.

Many bloggers and podcasters use affiliate marketing as a stream of income.  You don’t have to have a blog or podcast to connect with brands, but it surely can help.
